Recently my husband forwarded me a link to an author’s website. The author happens to be the ex-wife of a relative, so someone we knew many years ago, and have kept an eye on occasionally. She’s a world-class expert in her field, has published numerous books and papers, and is generally considered to be extremely knowledgeable about some sophisticated topics in the computer world.
Sadly, her website is a complete mess.
In short, this website is hurting her image if someone finds it and does not already know of her expertise. Honestly, in this case I’d rather see no site at all (or a single page that links to her author bio on Amazon, which appears to be reasonably up-to-date). The negative impression of an old, nonfunctional, outdated website will be remembered long after a clean, modern site with the correct information.
